Snorkeling at Fazenda Bay

Fazenda Bay, a sheltered cove on the coastline near Tarrafal on Santiago Island, is a place where the water does almost everything for you: calm, clear, and alive with marine life in a bay shaped by the geography of the Cape Verdean coast to hold a particular stillness even when the Atlantic is restless beyond the headland. This three-hour easy snorkelling tour is guided, fully equipped, and unhurried, paced around seeing the bay properly rather than rushing through it.

Fazenda is one of the most biodiverse snorkelling sites on Santiago Island, sheltered by a natural headland that keeps the water calm and allows visibility to extend well beyond what is typical in more exposed Cape Verdean bays. Beneath the surface, coral formations provide structure for a dense community of tropical fish: wrasse, parrotfish, triggerfish, and a shifting cast of reef species that varies with the season. Sea turtles visit the bay regularly, and while sightings cannot be guaranteed, they are frequent enough that your guide will watch for them throughout the session.
